The Quiz Process
The onboarding quiz is where your subscription begins. This page walks through every question we ask and explains how each answer shapes the plants you receive. No surprises, no hidden complexity.
Quiz Overview
The quiz has two main sections: your space and your experience. Together they build a profile that determines which plants from our catalog are appropriate for your subscription. The quiz takes approximately three minutes to complete.
You can update your answers at any time from your account. Changes take effect on your next shipment.
Section One: Your Space
Window direction is the most reliable indicator of light quality. South-facing windows in the Northern Hemisphere receive the most light throughout the day. North-facing windows receive consistent but lower levels. East and west-facing windows offer morning and afternoon light respectively.
This question accepts multiple answers if your space has windows on different sides. We use the combination to understand your best available light position.
We ask you to estimate how many hours per day your brightest spot receives light that is bright enough to read comfortably without turning on a lamp. This helps us understand whether you have enough light for plants that need several hours of bright indirect light versus those that can manage with less.
Trees, buildings, overhangs, and awnings significantly reduce the effective light reaching your space even through windows that face a favorable direction. A south-facing window blocked by a large tree may deliver less usable light than an unobstructed east-facing window.
Most houseplants prefer temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Homes that run cooler in winter or warmer in summer may not be suitable for temperature-sensitive species. We ask about your thermostat settings and whether you have drafty windows or heating vents near plant locations.
Humidity matters for tropical species. Subscribers with humidifiers, or who live in naturally humid climates, have access to a wider range of tropical plants that would struggle in dry heated or air-conditioned spaces.
Many common houseplants are toxic to cats, dogs, or humans if ingested. If you have pets or young children, we filter out plants with known toxicity concerns and prioritize species that are considered non-toxic by the ASPCA and similar authorities.
Section Two: Your Experience
We offer four options: no experience at all, some experience but inconsistent results, comfortable with basic care routines, and experienced with a range of plant types. Your answer determines your starting tier and which catalog options are available to you initially.
Some plants are very forgiving of missed waterings. Others are sensitive to both over and under watering. If your schedule is unpredictable, we lean toward drought-tolerant species. If you are attentive and consistent, we can introduce plants with more specific watering needs.
This question is optional but helps us understand your priorities. Some subscribers want lush foliage. Others are interested in flowering plants, trailing vines, or architectural statement plants. Your preference influences which eligible plants we prioritize for your shipments.
After the Quiz
Your answers create a profile that filters our plant catalog to show only species appropriate for your conditions and experience level.
From the eligible plants, our team selects one for your first shipment, considering seasonal availability and what will arrive in the healthiest condition.
Your profile is stored in your account and used for every subsequent shipment. We track what you have already received to avoid sending duplicates.
You can update any part of your profile at any time. The changes apply to your next shipment, not retroactively.
Your profile is yours to update whenever your space or experience level changes.
